The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, today begins an official trip to Kenya and South Africa with the aim of intensifying political relations and promoting the interests of Spanish companies in both countries.
Sánchez, who left the Torrejón de Ardoz air base (Madrid) yesterday accompanied by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, will be received today in Nairobi by the President of Kenya, William Ruto, in his first meeting with a foreign leader since he took office barely a month ago. At the end of the meeting, both leaders will read a joint statement. The head of the Executive will also participate in a breakfast with representatives of Spanish companies in Kenya, visit the United Nations Office and tour the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (Business Incubators for Women), where the food processing machinery financed by AECID is located.
On Thursday, she will meet in Pretoria with the President of South Africa, Ciryl Ramaphosa, with whom she will hold a joint press conference. He will also participate in the Business Forum between Spain and South Africa, will meet with representatives of the Association of Spanish Scientists living in South Africa and will visit in Johannesburg the former Constitution Hill prison, where former South African President Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.
According to Moncloa sources, Sánchez will discuss with the two African presidents the intensification of political and economic relations and various issues of the international situation, such as stability in Africa, the food crisis, the war in Ukraine, the fight against terrorism and organized crime. The president is accompanied by representatives of Spanish companies with interests in the area. The two countries offer important opportunities in sectors such as infrastructure, renewable energies and the agri-food industry.
