The Ambassador of Hungary, Katalin Tóth, attended as a speaker at the traditional opening masterclass of the Club of Nations, at the invitation of the Board of Trustees of the Colegio Mayor Universitario Miraflores de Zaragoza, on the 17th of October, in the Patio de la Infanta of Ibercaja.
The Club of Nations conference, in which the ambassadors accredited in Spain participate, is an emblematic event that is organised with the aim of creating tradition. Katalin Tóth was introduced by the President of the Board of Trustees of the College and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Zaragoza.
After presenting the historical and political background of Hungary, as well as its international relations, the Hungarian ambassador focused on governmental measures, with an emphasis on family policy. The war in Ukraine, which is the main focus of the current political situation, and Hungarian humanitarian aid were other highlights of her presentation. “So far, more than 1.5 million refugees from Ukraine have been accepted and 30,000 Ukrainian citizens have received a residence permit,” the ambassador pointed out. “Every day, about ten thousand people cross the Hungarian-Ukrainian border and the country helps them with all means at its disposal.”
Ambassador Tóth explained the issue of energy security, the ongoing conditionality procedure and the background of the controversy raised by the Child Protection Act. In this way, the young people and the general public received authentic first-hand information about the situation in the Central European country and the position of the Hungarian government.
