Within the framework of the XXII Week of the Italian Language in the World, the book La Mirada: Puerta del corazón, by Mons. Dario Edoardo Viganò, will be presented at the Instituto Italiano de Cultura in Madrid (Calle Mayor, 86).
At the event, the Institute will host a meeting organised by the Italian Embassy and the Apostolic Nunciature – Embassy of the Holy See on Neorealism, one of the greatest Italian film seasons of the 20th century. The importance of Neorealism in Italian culture will be examined, taking into account also the social and religious implications of this cinematographic phenomenon, and the event will also illustrate the enormous resonance that these films have had in the world.
The event will be introduced by Archbishop Bernardito Cleopas Auza, Archbishop Apostolic Nuncio of His Holiness and Riccardo Guariglia, Ambassador of Italy. This will be followed by a colloquium with the author, Mons. Dario Edoardo Viganò, and the film director and actor Mimmo Calopresti, moderated by Marialuisa Pappalardo, Director of the Instituto Italiano de Cultura.
The colloquium will analyse the importance of Neorealism as one of the most extraordinary moments in Italian cinema in the 20th century, both in terms of the social and religious aspects of the phenomenon, and in terms of the resonance that its films have had worldwide.
La Mirada: Puerta del corazón, by Mons. Viganò, Vice-Chancellor of the Pontifical Academies of Sciences of the Holy See, in dialogue with Pope Francis, is dedicated to film culture in relation to the Pope’s thought and magisterium, as well as to the documentary and society-transforming value of cinema in every age, capable of capturing in images the fundamental questions of people’s lives.
