The Diplomat
The diplomat Pablo García-Berdoy, former Permanent Representative of Spain to the European Union (REPER), has joined the consultancy firm Llorente y Cuenca as Principal Advisor of European Affairs, under the direction of Paloma Baena Olabe, head of the Next Generation EU Unit, according to the consultancy firm in a press release.
García-Berdoy has spent most of his career in Europe. A diplomat since 1987, he has held various responsibilities within the Secretariat of State for the European Union, including Director General for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Spanish Ambassador to Romania, Moldova and Germany. In December 2016 he was appointed Ambassador Permanent Representative to the European Union (REPER), a post from which he stepped down in the summer of 2021.
Baena, a graduate of Harvard University’s School of Government, joined LLYC in December 2020 from its Advisory Council. She is an expert in governance and sustainability, public policy and economic development. As a senior manager at the OECD, World Bank and Inter-American Bank for over a decade, she has advised governments and companies on the development of public-private partnership projects and the negotiation of international agreements at the OECD Council or G20 level.
With the launch of European Affairs, LLYC is committed to growing its European services. This new department will specialise in the institutional and legislative context of the European Union and its links with national and global public policies.
