Next Tuesday 18 October at 19.30 in the Symphonic Hall of the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, the Fundación Scherzo presents the return of the French pianist Alexandre Tharaud to the 27th Ciclo de Grandes Intérpretes, to offer a colourful and suggestive programme featuring Schubert, Debussy and Ravel.
Characterised as a pianist out of the ordinary, very involved not only in the great repertoire, but also in that of new creations and in the world of soundtracks, Tharaud presents a recital dedicated to small-scale works. He begins with Schubert’s Impromptu Op. 90, four musical sighs in which the Austrian composer immerses himself in pure music, with moments that transcend the descriptive.
From the suggestion of Schubert, we move on to the chromaticism of Debussy with 5 Préludes (Livre I), in which the French composer’s impressionist imagery is broken down in these five preludes of a dreamlike nature which, despite being brought together in his first book of preludes, do not respond to any kind of narrative or sequencing, making each piece unique and consolidated works.
In the second part of the recital, Tharaud will present his own version of the most symbolist Debussy, with his own arrangement of Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune. The concert will conclude with Ravel’s Miroirs, five piano pieces arranged in the form of a suite that seek to offer the reflection of five characters seen through the eyes of a mirror. Tickets for the concert can be purchased here.
