The Spanish government regrets, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that “despite the efforts of the United Nations special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, and countries in the region such as Saudi Arabia, it has not been possible to renew on 2 October the ceasefire in force since 2 April”.

Spain, according to this communiqué, “condemns the obstructionist attitude of the Houthi militias and the unreasonable demands to accept the extension of a truce, which since its entry into force has allowed a clear improvement in the living conditions of the Yemeni population”.

The Spanish government calls on all parties, and especially the Houthi militias, to definitively cease hostilities and begin a process of political negotiation.
