Instituto Francés presents ‘El color de tus recuerdos’, by Olivia Ruiz

The French singer, composer and writer Olivia Ruiz presents her book El color de tus recuerdos (The colour of your memories), this evening at 7.30 p.m. at the Theatre of the Instituto Francés in Madrid.

Objects are alive when they keep secrets inside. They can hide entire existences. Grandmother Rita has died and leaves her young granddaughter an old chest of drawers, full of mysterious objects, which had fascinated her so much as a child. Each of its colourful drawers reveals the memories that marked the lives of four generations of women between Spain and France from Franco’s dictatorship to the present day. In a single night, the young woman discovers that this beautiful colourful chest of drawers holds not only illusions, but her own past.

In her magnificent literary debut, the French author and composer Olivia Ruiz brings together a fresco of strong and vital women who have moved forward despite the daily tragedies and the times in which they lived. This extraordinary novel about uprootedness uncovers a family story full of secrets, featuring four generations of women marked by Franco’s dictatorship and exile in France. Admission is free with prior reservation at this link.
