The Embassy of Paraguay begins its Paraguayan Film Sessions
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

This afternoon at 5.30 p.m., the Embassy of Paraguay begins its Paraguayan Film Sessions, with the screening of the documentary short film Restaurando a Héctor, by Dea María Pompa (in the photo); the documentary film Arete Guasú, and Reinas.

Dea María Pompa, producer, scriptwriter and director, was president of the Paraguayan Film Academy in her first term. Her final project, the documentary short film that is being screened today, was awarded the Matrícula de Honor and received a scholarship to study the Master’s Degree in Creative Documentary at the UPF.

In the documentary film Arete Guasú, the history and culture of the Guaraní are revealed through the voices and images of the ancient people, grandparents, historical leaders and present-day natives. It is a time of reunion with the history and culture of the Guarani corn.  “May our arete guasú never end”, say the elders, while sharing chicha, tuning the flute and their drums, during the Atíku, leaving as a testament a rich legacy to the new generations. “It is the dance of the reunion of the Guaraní nation, without borders. Our ancestors come to dance the Arete Guasú. This millenary dance belongs to the Guarani people of Paraguay, Bolivia, Argentina and Brazil”.  As long as the last Guarani dances and speaks their language, the Guarani culture will not disappear.
