Organised by the International Commission against the Death Penalty in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Government of Spain (MAEC), Casa América presents the seminar The Death Penalty in the Americas, on experiences and the situation of capital punishment in the region on the occasion of the World Day against the Death Penalty, next Monday 10th October at 6pm in its Bolivar Room.
After welcoming remarks by José Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Martin O’Malley, Commissioner of the International Commission against the Death Penalty, will participate in the event. Governor of Maryland (2007 to 2015) who abolished the death penalty in his state in 2013; Carolina Fernández, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Costa Rica in Spain; Esteban Beltrán, Director of Amnesty International Spain, and Joaquín José Martínez, the first Spaniard to be exonerated from the death penalty in the USA.
