The Council of Ministers yesterday appointed Ion de la Riva as Spain’s Ambassador to Ireland, as The Diplomat had announced.
Ion de la Riva Guzmán de Frutos, born in Caracas in 1959, holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration. Abroad, he has held the positions of cultural counselor at the Spanish Embassy in Rome, permanent delegate ambassador to UNESCO (Paris, between 2010 and 2012), ambassador to India, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan, cultural and cooperation counselor in Havana, secretary of the Embassy in Paris and director of FIND (India-Europe Foundation for New Dialogues, between 2012 and 2014).
In Spain, he has held the positions, among others, of advisor to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, general director of Casa Asia (from its foundation in 2001 until 2007), technical advisor to the Cabinet of the Minister, advisor to the Office of the Minister, director of the American Tribune Consortium of Casa America and director of the Office of the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Ibero-America.
