The Diplomat
The Council of Ministers approved on Tuesday the appointment of Alberto Antón, until now director of the Diplomatic School, to the post of Spanish ambassador to Belgium, replacing Beatriz Larrotcha, as announced by The Diplomat.
Born in Martos (Jaén) in 1958, Antón holds a degree in Law from the University of Granada. He entered the Diplomatic Career in January 1985 and is currently Minister Plenipotentiary First Class.
Alberto Antón has been posted to the Spanish Embassies in Tanzania, Mexico, Morocco and Tunisia and to the Permanent Representations of Spain to the European Union and the Council of Europe. He has also been Consul General of Spain in Lyon, Spanish Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and Ambassador-at-Large for Digital Diplomacy.
In addition, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he has held the positions of deputy director general of Legal and Consular Affairs, advisory member for the Communication Plan of the Spanish Representations Abroad, advisory member for Economic Relations with Latin America, advisory member in the International Legal Advisory Office and director of the International Civil Servants Unit. Among other decorations, he holds the Gran Cruz del Mérito Naval con Distintivo Blanco, the Encomienda de la Orden de Isabel la Católica and the Encomienda de la Orden del Mérito Civil.
