Acciona Energy has signed a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Australian electricity trader Zen Energy, to which it will supply 200 gigawatt hours per year of 100% renewable energy from its Waubra wind farm, the company said in a statement yesterday.
The Waubra wind farm, located in the Australian state of Victoria, produces energy equivalent to the demand of around “138,000 homes”, according to Acciona’s estimates, and through the PPA will supply Zen with 34% of the facility’s total generation.
“The agreement will allow Zen to expand and diversify its renewable supply portfolio while accelerating Australia’s decarbonisation,” Acciona noted.
Zen Energy CEO Anthony Garnaut also stressed that the company is “accelerating” its renewables portfolio strategy and also highlighted that the signing of this deal, along with the recent power purchase agreement for the Tailem Bend 2 solar farm, “is just the beginning” of its “contribution to the energy transition”.
Likewise, Acciona Energy’s Director of Energy Markets and Policy in Australia, Melanie Sutton, said they are “delighted” to further their partnership with Zen through this Waubra wind farm deal.
