Next Friday 30 September at 7 p.m., at the Auditorio Marcelino Camacho in Madrid (Calle Lope de Vega, 40), the Embrujo Company presents the dance show Lota. Las mujeres del carbón (Lota. The women of coal), sponsored by the Fundación Chile-España.
Using Chilean and Spanish folkloric dance as a scenic language, complemented with theatrical interpretation, live music and Violeta Parra’s lyrics, Lota. Las mujeres del carbón tells the story of the historic moment of the closure of the mine in the Chilean city of Lota in 1997, with a focus on women as the pillar of this mining society that invites reflection and emotion thanks to its current and universal subject matter.
Created at the Centro de Danza Canal in Madrid by the Chilean dancer and choreographer Pedro Fernández Embrujo, based in Spain, the piece has received awards from the Chilean Circle of Art Critics and the Chilean Academy of Fine Arts. The event will be attended by personalities from Spain and Chile, such as Paloma López Bermejo, General Secretary of CCOO in Madrid; Javier Velasco Villegas, Chilean Ambassador to Spain, and Emilio Gilolmo, President of the Chile-Spain Foundation, among others.
