The Diplomat
The Spanish Embassy in Poland and the Director General of Spanish Abroad and Consular Affairs, Juan Duarte, have been awarded the Emilio Castelar Prize, granted by the Progressive Association of Spain.
The Awards, which have been given annually since 2005 to recognise individuals, institutions, organisations and companies committed to the defence of Human Rights, Democracy and the welfare of society, had a special section this year to reward the work carried out in the Ukrainian refugee crisis, following the invasion of that country by Russia.
In recognition of the people who have anonymously contributed and continue to contribute to the care of Ukrainian refugees, the Castelar Prize was awarded to the Spanish Embassy in Poland, which acted very intensely to help these people, and to Juan Duarte, who promoted the actions of his Directorate General to attend to the needs of the Spaniards who were in Ukraine when the war began.
Also honoured in the same chapter were the airline Vueling, which chartered flights to help people in conflict; Daniel Liput, Polish businessman and activist of the Network of Shelters in Poland; and several other aid workers who actively participated in various initiatives to help refugees.
