The Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Pilar Alegría, and the US Ambassador to Spain, Julissa Reynoso, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the US Department of Education last Wednesday in Madrid to strengthen student and teacher mobility and exchange programmes and to promote bilingual and multicultural education in both education systems.
The Understanding Agreement, which was previously signed in Washington by the US Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, plans to strengthen educational cooperation between the two countries, according to the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training in a press release.
At present, according to the Ministry, more than 1,000 Spanish teachers are working as visiting teachers in the United States, and next year Spain will receive more than 4,500 American conversation assistants.
In addition, more than 1,000 students participate in the Spanish Language and Culture Groups managed by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training’s Acción Educativa Exterior (AEE).
The AEE also collaborates with the more than 100 bilingual centres of the International Spanish Academies (ISA) network in the United States, in which more than 30,000 students are enrolled.
