A new film series begins at Casa Árabe dedicated to Lebanese cinema

Thawra Soul and Conversations with Siro are the two films that kick off a new film series at Casa Árabe in Madrid, dedicated to new Lebanese cinema. The screenings are in the original version with Spanish subtitles (VOSE).

The first session, which will begin at 7:30 pm, will feature the short film Thawra Soul, by Philippe Aractingi, made in 2019. Revolution is an energy that acts on the body, awakens sensations and unleashes creative potential. On 17 October 2019, a popular movement was unleashed in Lebanon, unleashing an emotional and spiritual whirlwind that had been dormant for decades. This film is an invitation to take a different look at what has been called “the awakening of consciousness”.

It will be followed by a screening of Dima El-Horr’s feature film Conversations with Siro from 2021. 4 August 2020, an apocalyptic explosion takes place in the port of Beirut: 200 victims, 6,500 wounded, entire districts of the city are left in ruins. A tragedy, once again. Siro is an Armenian artist born in Lebanon in 1933, to whom the director of the film is linked by a long friendship, as is evident in this film which takes place, in a fragmented way, between Beirut and Paris. Conversations with Siro is about mourning, loneliness and exile, but also about the moments of joy stolen from history in a Lebanon in agony. Tickets can be purchased here.
