‘Muljil’, a performance about the women divers of Jeju Island
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In collaboration with the Centro Cultural Coreano and the Korean Arts Council, from 17 to 19 August at 10 p.m., the performance Muljil will be presented in Plaza A of Matadero Madrid, which refers to the women divers of Jeju Island (known as haenyeo) and their way of collecting seafood in which they dive without equipment, determined to risk their lives by diving into deep waters. Free show.

For Elephants Laugh, a company led by creator Jinyeob Lee, the crossroads of life and death that haenyeo encounter when diving certainly exist in our daily lives because, although separated like islands, we are all submerged in the same sea.

Since the Korean collective was founded in 2009, Elephants Laugh has travelled the world presenting their stage creations in which they always count on local communities to be part of them, exploring social issues with the aim of stimulating audiences to reflect on how they perceive themselves and the limits of our society.
