The Council of Ministers on Monday approved the appointment, as The Diplomat reported, of María Nieves Blanco Díaz as Spain’s new ambassador to Lithuania. Since 2020, she has been cultural counsellor at the Spanish Embassy in Hungary.

Born in Gijón on 5 May 1970, she holds a degree in Law from the University of Oviedo. She entered the diplomatic service in 2005. She has extensive experience in security affairs, having been posted for eight years at the Permanent Representation of Spain to NATO (2015-2018 and previously 2007-2012).

She has also worked as an advisor on Migration Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation between 2012 and 2015. She has also served at the Consulate General of Spain in Havana (2005-2007) and led the cultural programming team of Casa de América, Spain’s main institution for public diplomacy with the American continent, between 2018 and 2020.
