Iran abandons its “red line” in nuclear agreement negotiations, CNN says

A senior official in Joe Biden’s administration said yesterday that Iran has dropped the demanded “red line” which disturbed nuclear agreement negotiations and that the parties are moving closer to a return to the pact, according to CNN.

Iran would not have demanded – at this point in the negotiations – that the US remove the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) from the State Department’s list of Foreign Terrorist Organisations. It also reportedly dropped requests for the delisting of companies linked to the IRGC.

According to the official contacted by the US channel, Tehran “discards” these demands from “the current version of the text”. “So, if we are closer to an agreement, that’s why,” he said.

In any case, the official indicated that, “while an agreement is closer now than it was a fortnight ago, the outcome remains uncertain as some gaps remain”.
