Author: Almudena Grandes.

The book Todo va a mejorar (Everything is going to get better),  by the writer Almudena Grandes, shows Spain in the near future. A new political party called Movimiento Ciudadano ¡Soluciones Ya! (Citizens’ Movement Solutions Now!) has swept the elections. Its shadow leader is a successful businessman who advocates that the Council of Ministers should function like a board of directors, and who has ambitious plans to fix the country. Following the alarm of a wave of vandalism, he will form a new vigilante corps, following a Great Blackout he will create limited internet access, and, in the face of hardship, he will encourage freedom of shopping and consumption. All of these will be extraordinary measures as the country faces new forms of pandemic that require security first and foremost. “Security is health. Health is life. Life is security.”

Only a group of ordinary women and men will dare to dismantle the lies of the new regime in which everything appears to be improving, when in reality we live under the abuses of unscrupulous powerful people.
