The PP spokeswoman in the European Parliament, Dolors Montserrat, yesterday called on the European Commission to explain why the Midcat gas pipeline project, whose construction has been reconsidered at the request of the German government, was suspended.
In a parliamentary question, Montserrat urged the Commission to support the pipeline, which would link Portugal and Spain to the centre of Europe. She also asks for information on the timeframe in which it is expected to be operational.
Montserrat recalls in her question that in March, in the plenary session of the European Parliament, she stressed the need for a “genuine common energy market” interconnected with infrastructures such as Midcat. For this reason, she insists on “not letting the great opportunity of Spain being the country in the European Union (EU) with the most gas storage capacity and the most regasification capacity slip through our fingers”.
