This Friday 12 August at 5pm the seventeen Qatari Yazus (sailors) will arrive at the port of Barcelona on an authentic boat from the era that started Qatar’s wealth, the pearl diving era, as part of the Qatar 2022 promotion strategy.

Specifically, Katara Cultural Village is responsible for this transporting and original idea to transfer Qatar’s maritime heritage, the life of its ancestors and to promote the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The ship started its journey on the 4th of July from the port of Grand Hyper Marine in Malta and sailed around the ports of Italy and France before arriving in Spain.

This is the fifth trip that this vessel has made since it sailed the most hidden places of the Persian Gulf in 2012. Now, Spaniards will have the opportunity to see an authentic image that recalls Qatar’s roots.

According to the ship’s captain, what most impresses visitors is the traditional dress, with the loincloth, the ghutra (the traditional headscarf) and the white T-shirt. In addition, the crew will be handing out gifts to young and old for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, presented by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and Katara. These gifts will range from a trip, the official tournament ball and hats to T-shirts.
