The Diplomat
The Ambassador of Ecuador, Andrés Vallejo, yesterday highlighted the excellent bilateral relations that unite Ecuador and Spain during the commemoration of the 213th anniversary of the First Cry of Independence, which marked the beginning of the processes of independence in Latin America, granting Quito the recognition of “Light of America”.
Vallejo pointed out that “we are living in a moment of maximum cooperation on priority issues for the National Government: we are looking for this cooperation to be directed fundamentally towards the fight against child malnutrition, the strengthening of the rural health system, the protection of the environment, the promotion of investment and culture”.
The ambassador called for Ibero-American unity as the driving force behind more solid relations between Spain and Latin America, “a synergy that – he assured – allows us to have greater strength in the international concert, to respond to issues of common interest in the development of our democracies and peoples”.
In the framework of this celebration, the Ambassador, together with officials of the Embassy and the Consulates in Madrid, Malaga and Murcia, and the Ecuadorian Defence, Air and Police Attachés in Spain, laid a wreath next to the bust of Simón Bolívar, in the Parque del Oeste in Madrid.
The civic act was attended by the diplomatic corps, defence attachés of the diplomatic missions, local authorities and representatives of Ecuadorian civil society.
On the same day, the Consulates of Ecuador in Barcelona, Valencia, Murcia and Palma de Mallorca also held solemn acts, with the participation of members of the consular corps, regional authorities and association leaders. In the case of Valencia, a virtual concert by the Loja Symphony Orchestra will also be broadcast, and in the case of Murcia, the façade of the Lorca Town Hall will be illuminated in the national colours.
