Crude oil imports into Spain reached 5.538 million tonnes in June, an increase of 27.4 per cent over the same month last year, according to data from the Corporation of Strategic Reserves of Petroleum Products (Cores).

During the month, 37 types of crude oil were imported from 19 countries. Nigeria, with 1.173 million tonnes and 21.2% of the total, was the main supplier of crude oil to Spain in June, with a year-on-year increase of 85.6%, reports Europa Press.

Behind the African country came the United States, with 707,000 tonnes and 12.8% of the total, a 688% increase compared to June last year, and Brazil (539,000 tonnes and 9.7%), which increased its imports by 314.5%.

OPEC member countries’ crude oil imports rose 15.4% in the month compared to June a year ago and accounted for 50.3% of the total. Meanwhile, year-on-year increases were recorded in crude oil imports from all member countries except Libya and Algeria, which fell, and Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, which did not import any crude oil during the month.

Meanwhile, crude oil imports from Non-OPEC countries also increased, rising by 42.4% with respect to June 2021.

By geographical area, Africa, with an increase of 3.8%, was the main supply area in the month, accounting for 33.2% of the total. It was followed by North America, with 24.4% of the total; the Middle East, with 18.4%; Central and South America, with 12.5%; and Europe and Eurasia, with 11.5%.
