Acciona has been awarded a 258 million euro contract in Chile to design and build a seawater desalination plant in Puerto Patache de Collahuasi, located 70 kilometres south of the city of Iquique.
The project, which is part of the ‘Infrastructure Development and Productive Capacity Improvement’ plan for the operations of the Doña Inés de Collahuasi mining company (CMDIC), also includes the operation and maintenance of the plant by Acciona for two years, extendable for a further three years, reports Europa Press.
In the last analyst presentation, coinciding with the publication of Acciona’s half-year results, the company specified that one of the latest contracts awarded in its portfolio was this Collahuasi contract for 258 million euros.
Now, the local press has announced the formal award of this desalination plant, which will have an initial capacity of 1,050 litres per second, in the Tarapacá Region. Construction is expected to start during the third quarter of 2022, generating a maximum of 3,000 workers in the construction phase.
Of the 20.58 billion euro project portfolio, Latin America is Acciona’s most important region, accounting for 29% of the total, ahead of 23% in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), 22% in Australia and Southeast Asia, 20% in Spain and 7% in North America.
