The Yelmo Cinemas are holding the MET SUMMER season this July and August, with exclusive screenings of the spectacular productions Cinderella, Madama Butterfly, La Bohème and Tosca.

These are four of the most popular operas of those screened live from the Metropolitan Opera in New York during the past months on the big screen of Cine Yelmo through +Que Cine, its alternative content window.

The series begins tomorrow, Tuesday, with the screening of Cinderella, in an abridged 90-minute adaptation. Starring mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard and directed by musical director Emmanuel Villaume. On 26 July, Puccini’s classic Madama Butterfly will be screened. The outstanding sopranos Hui He and Ana María Martínez share the leading role of the unhappy geisha in this heartbreaking story, alongside tenors Piero Pretti and Andrea Carè and Plácido Domingo, who makes his debut in the role of Sharpless. On August 2nd, another great classic will be performed: Puccini’s La Bohème, considered the most popular opera in the world, with Franco Zeffirelli’s classic production and a cast consisting of Angel Blue, Anita Hartig and Sonya Yoncheva sharing the role of the fragile Mimi, with Dmytro Popov, Russell Thomas and Michael Fabiano alternating as the poet Rodolfo.

To conclude this summer season, on 9 August Puccini will return with the splendid Tosca. Franco Zeffirelli’s ensemble and Napoleonic-era costumes take centre stage in David McVicar’s new production. Two extraordinary sopranos share the leading role of prima donna celosa: Kristine Opolais and Anna Netrebko. Vittorio Grigolo and Marcelo Álvarez alternate as the revolutionary artist Cavaradossi, Tosca’s lover, and Bryn Terfel, Michael Volle and George Gagnidze as the depraved police chief Scarpia. Andris Nelsons conducts. Tickets are now on sale for the four sessions of the MET VERANO series on the Cine Yelmo website.
