Madrid prepares for the LGTBIQA+ Pride 2022 festivities

July 1, 2022
in Entertainment, Espectáculos, Leisure

The party returns to celebrate LGTBIQA+ Pride from today until 10 July in the Chueca neighbourhood – although the party is felt all over the city and there are stages in Plaza de Pedro Zerolo and Plaza del Rey, Plaza de Callao and Plaza de España. And as the city council’s website says, “Madrid speaks to you and feels PRIDE in each and every one of us for being just the way we are, for simply being us”.

The celebrations begin every year at the end of June (28 June is International Pride Day, which commemorates the StoneWall riots that marked the beginning of the LGTB collective’s demands) and last for a week with an extensive programme of protest, cultural and recreational activities that have their big day on the afternoon of the first Saturday of July with the great state demonstration (from Atocha to Plaza de Colón), the highlight of the festivities. As they point out on the capital’s website too, “VUELVE” is the slogan for the 2022 celebrations. “Because we are proud of who we are, of what we have experienced, of our way of feeling and loving, of equality and diversity… and because we CAN celebrate again! All the programme for this year’s celebration can be consulted at this link.
