The Diplomat
The 74th promotion of the Diplomatic School will be the first to have a greater number of women than men, according to the resolution of the Examination Tribunal for access to the Diplomatic Career distributed yesterday.
The resolution includes the list of people who have passed the competitive examination for access to one of the 35 places that had been called for this year. Of these 35 people, 21 are women and 14 are men.
The number of women entering the Diplomatic Career has been increasing over the last few years, and the last promotion, the 73rd, was the first one with equal numbers of 17 men and 17 women.
In that class, the first three positions were occupied by women. Now, the “number one” is also a woman -Paloma Díaz Topete– and of the top twelve positions, only three are occupied by men.
According to data provided by the Ministry in March last year, Spain currently has 687 male and 279 female diplomats.
