With the selection of ten meritorious Dominican students or students of Dominican origin living in Spain, both for their grades and for their civic behaviour, and two honourable mentions to students for their efforts to excel, the Embassy of the Dominican Republic is culminating the twelfth edition of the School Merit Awards 2022.
After studying the more than seventy nominations received and after an arduous selection process, the jury was chaired by Juan Fernández, Dominican psychiatrist, and composed of Jeannette Alfau, Dominican lawyer; Thelma Kundhart, Dominican dentist; Raúl Jiménez, Spanish, director of CEPI Tetuán, and Pablo Gómez Tavira, Spanish, head of the cabinet of the Ministry of Education, Universities, Science and Spokesperson of Madrid.
The twelve young laureates were selected: Fernando Linares Tavarez, 11 years old, resident of Valladolid; Joel Reyes Mercado, 17 years old, resident of Madrid; Marién Sánchez Méndez, 12 years old, resident of Madrid; Carmen Lucía Acosta, 12 years old, resident of Madrid; Lisbel Francisco Salcedo, 15 years old, resident of Madrid; Rodrigo González Abreu, 11, resident of Ourense; Noelia López Rivera, 15, resident of Seville; Daiana Zulueta Sierra, 12, resident of Seville; Emmanuel Acevedo Valdez, 11, resident of Madrid; and Emily Galán Méndez, 18, resident of Madrid. Honourable mentions went to Charlene Báez Matos, resident in Madrid, and Estrella Blázquez Taveras, resident in Zaragoza. The presentation of medals to the winners will take place today, 22 July, in a ceremony led by Ambassador Juan Bolívar Díaz. Ten of the award winners will receive a laptop computer, as well as a cultural trip to Santo Domingo, sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, where they will meet President Luis Abinader Corona and visit the main Dominican institutions, museums and cultural centres.
