The recently approved Law of Democratic Memory was the focus of a new session of The Diplomat’s Tertulias, which took place yesterday and was led by the State Secretary for Democratic Memory, Fernando Martínez.

The Tertulia, which took place at the Hotel Meliá Madrid Serrano, under the sponsorship of Hospitales de Madrid, was attended by some twenty ambassadors and diplomats from various embassies accredited in our country.

Fernando Martínez, who is also a professor of Contemporary History and was the coordinator of the map of graves in Andalusia, gave a very detailed explanation of the historical and political background that led to the parliamentary approval of this law. The audience was very interested to hear the State Secretary’s views on the challenges facing historical memory in Spain.

The Diplomat’s Tertulias, which began to be held in 2015, take place every month to discuss different aspects of Spanish politics, economy and society. Aimed at foreign diplomats in Madrid, they take place in a reduced format, under the condition of strict confidentiality of what is discussed in the room.
