The vice-rector of Culture, Sports and University Extension of the Complutense University, Isabel García Fernández; the director of Fundación Carolina, José Antonio Sanahuja; and the director of Cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean of the AECID, Laura Oroz, inaugurated yesterday the summer course Development, advanced cooperation and university in Ibero-America.
The course, which will be held from July 18 to 22 at the Real Centro Universitario Escorial-María Cristina, aims to present the latest modalities and instruments of advanced cooperation between Latin America and Spain in the framework of the 2030 Agenda. At the same time, it aims to analyze educational and university public policies in Ibero-America, identifying strategies, institutions and actors and discussing the keys for the renewal of Ibero-American cooperation in higher education in terms of innovation, mobility and knowledge. Directed by the Secretary General of the Carolina Foundation, Hugo Camacho, the program includes lectures and round tables by leading specialists in cooperation and development.
The Summer Courses at San Lorenzo de El Escorial, which have been held since 1988, are a key activity of the Complutense University of Madrid, “a unique meeting point between the university community and society, located in a privileged environment that encourages the presentation of the latest scientific discoveries, reflection and academic discussion,” said the Carolina Foundation in a press release.
The Carolina Foundation was established in 2000 as an institution for the promotion of cultural relations and educational and scientific cooperation between Spain and the countries of the Ibero-American Community of Nations. Since its creation, it has awarded more than 16,500 scholarships and research grants to Ibero-American university students. The Carolina Foundation is also a tool of public diplomacy to achieve better mutual understanding between Latin America and Spain. It is also a public-private alliance whose board of trustees includes both Spanish foreign action institutions and a group of private companies that are active in Latin America.
