The Diplomat
Austria’s ambassador to Spain, Christian Ebner, has ended his stay in Madrid, having been appointed to take charge of his country’s embassy in Belgrade, The Diplomat has learned.
Ebner, who presented his Letters of Credence to the King in April 2018, has been intensely active in Spain over the last four years, during which Austria held the EU Presidency for a six-month period and which saw the King and Queen’s first official trip to Vienna last February.
Christian Ebner’s post in Spain will be filled by Enno Drofenik, until now Head of Protocol at the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The new Austrian ambassador has been a diplomat since 1997 and throughout his twenty-five-year career has been ambassador to Thailand (2013 to 2017) and head of the Cabinet of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition, between 2003 and 2006 he worked for the United Nations in New York.
