The Diplomat
The Council of Ministers yesterday appointed Mercedes Alonso Frayle as Spain’s ambassador to Singapore, as The Diplomat had already announced. She replaces Santiago Miralles.
Born in Bilbao on May 27, 1963, Alonso Frayle holds a degree in Law and a degree in Economics from the University of Deusto. She also holds a Diploma of Advanced European Studies from the College of Europe of Bruges in the branch of Community Law.
She entered the diplomatic career in March 1988. Since then she has been posted in the diplomatic representations of Spain in Austria, Senegal, Panama and Brazil, occupying the second position in the last three. She has also been deputy consul in London and consul general in Manila and Düsseldorf.
In the central services she has held the positions of deputy director of the Technical Cabinet of the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, advisor to the Secretary of Foreign Affairs and deputy director general of Agreements and Regional Fisheries Organizations in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, among others. She was currently Deputy Director General of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
