The Instituto Cultural Rumano presents the paintings of Flavius Lucăcel

Until 12 August, the Instituto Cultural Rumano in Madrid is holding an exhibition of paintings by Flavius Lucăcel, Silvania of Eden, which will be inaugurated this evening at 7 p.m. at the Gallery of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Madrid (Plaza del Cordón, 1), in the presence of the artist.

Flavius Lucăcel’s project proposes a mirror-window. But also a window-picture. A dramatic mirror, sad and joyful, of a world that only exists at home. A world that, in fact, no longer exists. Only in the memories of old people forgotten by the world. Not even in “Alunișul Sălajului”, so dear to the painter. Through this window and this sentimental museum one can also look from the outside in, but it seems that the artist invites us to look from inside the house as well. To recall the modest but uplifting world of the Romanian people, of the homemade or ceremonial objects with which the peasant had his passage through the world.

“I have used for these works traditional towels and carpets woven by the women of my village Aluniș, Sălaj. The windows, made by Gheorghe Sana from the village of Tihău, were given to me by his son, who took care of them after the demolition of his former home. I have also recovered window frames from monumental buildings in Cluj that are being replaced with modern windows. They were made at the end of the 19th century in the Budapest workshops and the wood, fittings and joints are intact, surely their founders have worked painstakingly. Having escaped the worry of losing our roots, my initiative is to timidly urge to safeguard what they have achieved,” said Flavius Lucăcel.
