On Monday, Her Majesty the Queen will receive the First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, who will arrive in Madrid a day before her husband, on the occasion of the NATO Summit.

Joe Biden’s wife will arrive at the Torrejón air base and will then travel to the Zarzuela Palace, where she will be met by Don Letizia. From there, both will visit the Spanish Cancer Association.

On Tuesday, 28th, the Queen and Mrs. Biden will travel to Pozuelo e Alarcón to visit the Ukrainian refugee reception centre.

In addition, Doña Letizia will act as hostess in the programme that will be carried out by those accompanying the other heads of state and government participating in the summit.

The Queen, who will be, together with the King, at the gala dinner on Tuesday night at the Royal Palace, will spend Wednesday 29, the first day of the Summit, visiting the Royal Site of La Granja de San Ildefonso with her guests. There they will see the fountains in operation, visit the royal palace and the Royal Glass Factory, where they will enjoy an exhibition of glass blowing.

For lunch, the group will return to Madrid, where they will enjoy a meal provided by Paradores at the NuBel restaurant in the Reina Sofía Museum. At the Madrid art gallery they will visit Picasso’s Guernica, a painting in front of which they will pose for a family photo.

In the evening, Doña Letizia and her group of companions will attend a dinner in a room of the Prado Museum, although they will not share a table with the leaders, to whom the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will offer another working dinner in the cloister of the Jerónimos.

The second day of the ‘parallel agenda’, on Thursday 30, will have a cultural and a gastronomic component, as Doña Letizia and those accompanying the leaders will visit the Royal Theatre and take part in a tasting of olive oils, which will be accompanied by a talk on the Mediterranean diet. They will also take the opportunity to tour the theatre’s facilities and enjoy a rehearsal of Nabbuco, the next opera to be performed on the stage of the Real.
