Six veteran spanish diplomats promoted to ambassadorial rank

Six long-serving diplomats in the final years of their careers have been promoted to the rank of ambassador, according to decrees published on Wednesday in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

 

They are as follows:

-Pedro Antonio Villena, who is currently consul general in Hamburg and has been ambassador to Iran, director of Casa Árabe and deputy director general for the Maghreb. He has also been consul general in Frankfurt and ‘number two’ in the embassies in Germany and Algeria.

-Juan Manuel Molina, who has been ambassador to Mozambique and ‘number two’ at the embassies in the United States, Iran and Lebanon, as well as consul general in Sydney, in addition to having been posted, among other places, in Rabat and Lisbon.

-Jorge Sánchez Rodríguez, currently Consul General in Lima, who previously held the same post in Salvador de Bahía, Santo Domingo and Nador. He has also held second posts at the Spanish Embassies in Thailand, Kuwait, Turkey and Peru, and was Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Spain to the UN in New York.

-José Javier Gómez-Llera, who is currently Ambassador to Uruguay and was also Ambassador to El Salvador. He has also been posted to Spain’s permanent representations to NATO and the EU.

-Miguel Bauzá, currently Consul General in Hong Kong and former Ambassador to Estonia. He has also been Consul General in Moscow and Beijing; held second posts in Turkey, Tunisia and Denmark and has been Deputy Director General for Candidate Countries, European Economic Area Countries and Other European Countries.

-Luis Javier Gil Catalina, currently Consul General in Buenos Aires and former Ambassador to Ukraine and to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, as well as Ambassador Delegate to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva. He was also Secretary General for Foreign Affairs.
