The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, visited yesterday the fourteen Ukrainian war wounded who were transferred to Spain and are being treated at the General Defense Hospital in Zaragoza, to whom she conveyed her solidarity and assured that, “within its capabilities”, Spain will continue “bringing Ukrainian combat wounded”.

“We feel very proud to be able to help, I think the work you are doing in Ukraine is heroic, fighting for peace. You are an example to the world,” the minister said during her meeting with the hospitalized, mostly young people. “We hope that the war will end soon, that you will be able to return home and that you will feel very proud,” she added.

Robles also thanked the entire team of the General Defense Hospital and the Miguel Servet Hospital in Zaragoza for the treatment and care offered to the wounded, who suffer “very serious and shocking injuries” that require the collaboration of specialists from various medical disciplines from the two centers.

The thirteen men and one woman from Ukraine arrived in Spain on two military flights on May 5 and 19, as part of the commitment announced by the Minister in her last speech to the Defense Committee of the Congress. Some have traumatic injuries, with various traumatic amputations requiring prostheses, as well as ophthalmological and maxillofacial injuries. Those who require it undergo surgery at the Miguel Servet University Hospital in Zaragoza, and are then readmitted to the Military Hospital. They currently receive daily physiotherapy sessions with the aim of recovering joint and neuromuscular functionality.
