The European Commission has provisionally selected ten of the projects submitted by Spain to the call for proposals under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), to promote the development of the Trans-European Transport Network, for a total amount of 234 million euros, reports Europa Press.

The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, which, together with other public administrations and private companies, participated in this European call for proposals, reported that the call received applications for 8.258 million euros, some 3.3 times the budgeted amount.

The European funds will thus help to finance transport and mobility projects requiring a total investment of 524.2 million euros in Spain, as the Commission announced today in Lyon, as part of the Connecting Europe Days, which was attended by the Secretary General for Infrastructure, Xavier Flores.

The Ministry is leading seven of the 10 selected actions, which will be subsidised with 213.4 million euros, while the other three projects benefiting correspond to private organisations and the Region of Murcia.

The execution of the Atlantic Corridor, which receives 145.5 million euros through Adif, or the promotion of sustainability and digitalisation in ports and logistics terminals were some of the projects selected.

Initiatives aimed at improving and developing safe parking facilities for heavy goods vehicles for professional transport, one of the priorities of the European Commission, have also received aid.

Spain has been provisionally allocated 9.4% of the 2,481 million euros in the call for proposals, which is above the ratios recorded in other years and in line with the percentage that the country contributes to the EU’s annual budget.

The next call of this mechanism is aimed at dual civilian and military mobility, with a budget of 330 million euros, and a deadline for submitting proposals set for 29 September 2022.
