The Diplomat
The American First Lady, Jill Biden, who preceded her husband in arriving in Madrid for the NATO Summit, divided her day yesterday in various activities: from going to the Zarzuela Palace to talk to the Queen, to visiting the Spanish Association Against Cancer with Doña Letizia, to finding time to buy some espadrilles from a well-known Spanish brand in the Salamanca neighbourhood.
Jill Biden arrived in the Spanish capital on Sunday and yesterday morning had a meeting with Queen Letizia, who later told reporters that the meeting had gone “phenomenally well” and that she had found the First Lady “charming and intelligent”.
In the afternoon, the two first ladies met again, to visit together the facilities of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), where they were received by the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias; the Spanish Ambassador to the United States, Santiago Cabanas; the US Ambassador to Spain, Julissa Reynoso; and the President of the AECC, Ramón Reyes, among other directors.
Doña Letizia, who is honorary president of the AECC, and Jill Biden, who is very involved in the fight against cancer through the Cancer Moonshot Initiative promoted by her husband, learned about the work of the institution and discussed international collaboration in research into the disease.
Jill Biden also had time to go, amid great expectation and surrounded by a large entourage of bodyguards and assistants, to Claudio Coello Street, where she bought some wedge espadrilles from Castañer, a well-known Spanish footwear brand.
