The Government Delegation in the Community of Madrid has authorised three demonstrations in favour of and three against the NATO summit in the Spanish capital, as announced on Cadena Ser by the Government Delegate, Mercedes González.

González justified the prohibition of a demonstration against NATO called and communicated by a private individual for Wednesday 29th, which was to take place along Atocha Street, by pointing out that the rally coincided with the official dinner at the Prado Museum with great leaders and the Royal Household, which is why it has been cancelled for “security reasons”.

In global terms, González indicated that there were many requests for demonstrations, a dozen directly related to the NATO summit and a total of 54 until 30 July.

On the participation of some ministers and members of Unidas Podemos in the demonstrations against NATO, the delegate affirmed that Spain has a coalition government and that in it “two parties with different ideals cohabit”. However, she stressed that the government will be represented at the summit by the President, Pedro Sánchez, the Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares.

The delegate pointed out that the positions defended by Unidas Podemos are “very old” and it is a debate that in this country was addressed “40 years ago”. “I think they are quite old options, but they have the right to express them,” she said.
