The Council of Ministers yesterday appointed José Antonio de Ory as Spain’s ambassador to Pakistan, where he will replace Manuel Durán, as The Diplomat had already announced.

Born in Madrid, with a degree in Law from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and a diplomat since 1990, José Antonio de Ory currently holds the post of Ambassador-at-Large for Peace and Inclusive Security Missions and Operations.

De Ory has developed his career in two main areas: in the multilateral sphere, as counselor at the United Nations Mission in New York, director of the Human Rights Office and deputy permanent delegate to UNESCO; and in cultural action abroad, as cultural counselor at the Embassies in Bogotá and Tokyo, deputy director general at the Ministry of Culture and director of Programming at Casa de América. He has also been consul in Bogota, Colombia, and second in command at the Spanish Embassy in New Delhi, India.

José Antonio de Ory is a graduate of the National Defense Course (CESEDEN) and the Course on Preventive Diplomacy & Conflict Resolution, School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), Columbia University. He has also taught at the Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia).
