The MP and secretary of International Affairs of the PP, Valentina Martínez, denounced yesterday in Congress the “embarrassing spectacle” offered by the Government because of its internal divisions regarding NATO and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jose Manuel Albares, accused the main opposition party of using the Alliance to try to “wear down” the Executive.
“You, with your quarrels, are not aware of how much is at stake for Spain and Europe in this event,” said Martinez, referring to the upcoming NATO Summit in Madrid. An example of this, he said, was the “embarrassing spectacle” that took place during the events commemorating Spain’s 40 years in NATO, in which “part of the government boycotted a government event”.
In his response, Albares affirmed that the event was a “success” and accused the PP of placing itself in the same position it occupied during the NATO referendum of 1986, when, instead of “helping the shoulder”, it chose to “wear down” the Government’s management.
