Gianni Rodari is a classic of children’s literature with great public and critical acclaim. From rhymes and language games to fables and novels, his works speak of freedom, rights, dignity and civil responsibility, always with a light and profound tone. In 1970, Rodari was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Prize, the Nobel Prize for children’s literature.
There is no safe place in Ukraine. Ukraine’s 7.5 million children are at serious risk of physical harm, severe emotional disruption and displacement in the wake of the escalating conflict. Shelling and explosions in multiple cities across the country have forced children and families to take refuge in basements and bomb shelters. We know that dozens of children have already died as a result of the attacks and this number, unfortunately, is growing daily. Half of those who have fled Ukraine are children. Nearly 2 million displaced children are facing extreme conditions, forced to spend days and nights in the open with no shelter and temperatures below freezing.
