The Barcelona captain spent most of his career at central defence but started at right back. As a result, he was named in the 2002 UEFA Champions League Player of the Year.

Carles was the kind of player who never relaxed when the score was 4-0 in favor of his team and never gave up when the score was 4-0 in favor of the opponent. Puyol finished his career with the national team, playing exactly 100 official matches for it.
