Mexico’s new ambassador to Spain, Quirino Ordaz, has been summoned to the Royal Palace on 6 June to present his Letters of Credence to the King, The Diplomat has learned from reliable sources.

Ordaz arrived in Madrid on 11 April, seven months after he was nominated for the post by the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and after having had to wait longer than usual to obtain the approval of the Spanish authorities, annoyed by the Mexican president’s continuous attacks on Spain.

Shortly after his arrival in our country, Quirino Ordaz handed over the Copias de Estilo at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has allowed him to carry out a certain amount of activity as ambassador, although not in acts in which the King was present.

As The Diplomat reported, the Spanish government has asked the Mexican authorities for their approval to appoint Juan Duarte, the current Director General for Spaniards Abroad and Consular Affairs, as Ambassador to Mexico.

At the same ceremony at the Royal Palace, the Chilean ambassador, Javier Velasco, one of the closest collaborators of the new Chilean president, and Gabriel Boric, who arrived in Madrid a few weeks ago, will present their credentials to the head of state.

The Brazilian ambassador, Orlando Leite Ribeiro, who presented his Copias de Estilo at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the beginning of April, will also attend.

Also attending the ceremony will be the new Ambassador of Yemen, Aws Abdullah Ahmed Alaud, as well as the Ambassadors of the Maldives and Zimbabwe, who are based in London and Paris respectively.
