On June 1, #EULAT4Culture, a cultural diplomacy initiative led by Spain to promote culture and creativity in Europe and Ibero-America, will kick off in Brussels.
The launch of #EULAT4Culture will take place at the KVS Royal Flemish Theatre in Brussels with the launch of ÁGORA, a forum on cooperative culture and creativity with the participation of political representatives, cultural management professionals, creators and artists from around the world.
The #EULAT4Culture initiative is led by the Spanish presidency of the European Union Network of National Institutes of Culture (EUNIC) – assumed by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) since June 2021 – together with the Ibero-American Cultural Network RIDCULT of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) and the European External Action Service (EEAS) of the EU.
#EULAT4Culture emerged in the framework of the first EUNIC and RIDCULT cultural diplomacy meeting, held in Toledo in June 2021. At that meeting, the Directorate of Cultural and Scientific Relations of the AECID assumed the presidency of EUNIC and defined among its priorities the inclusion of the Ibero-American dimension in the European spotlight and the strengthening of cultural diplomacy as a driver of social transformation and development.
The #EULAT4Culture initiative, the result of a global call launched last February and financed by the Government of Spain in the framework of its presidency of EUNIC, will involve the celebration, over the next six months, of nearly one hundred cultural activities in 20 capitals around the world: Abuja, Algiers, Algiers, Ankara, Bogota, Brasilia, Brussels, Buenos Aires, Hanoi, Madrid, Manila, Maputo, Mexico City, New Delhi, Santiago de Chile, Paris, Beijing, Pretoria, Tel Aviv, Tokyo and Washington. It will be supported by more than 200 partners, including embassies, cultural centers and other institutions.
The aim of the initiative is to strengthen creative ties between Europe and Latin America, as well as to contribute, through the proposed activities, to the promotion of shared values such as democracy, the defense of human rights and freedom of expression. The proposed activities cover a wide range of disciplines, from music to theater, reading promotion, architecture, gastronomy, information and communication technologies, cinema, art, museums and archeology, among others.
