The National Bank of Belgium (BNB) is hosting until after the summer the unique exhibition (Un)Common, Two Corporate Collections of Contemporary Art, showing pieces from its art collection and that of the Banco de España. Following the success of the exhibition Building a Dialogue (2019), the BNB is continuing this rare cultural exchange between Eurosystem central banks. In the BNB’s Art Nouveau courtyard in the heart of the European capital (3 Boulevard de Berlaimont, 1000 Brussels), the two institutions are presenting to the public an important selection of contemporary art works from their respective collections.
The BNB’s contemporary art collection celebrates its golden jubilee this year and the Banco de España has been chosen to jointly celebrate this anniversary. Their impressive collection has been built up over 240 years of active cultural patronage. Together, they will look back over the last half-century in search of our common values.
Alongside internationally renowned artists such as Wolfgang Tillmans, Helena Almeida, Candida Höfer and Jonathan Monk, Spanish classics such as Rogelio López Cuenca, Sara Ramo, Daniel García Andùjar, as well as renowned Belgian artists such as Michaël Borremans, Peter Buggenhout, Jacqueline Mesmaeker, Jacques Charlier and Emmanuel Van der Auwera, will also take part.
