The Instituto Cervantes has signed a collaboration agreement with the Spanish Red Cross to facilitate the teaching and dissemination of Spanish culture and language to Ukrainian refugees.

The objective of the agreement, aimed at the Spanish Red Cross’ program for the reception of applicants for international protection, is to establish the basis for collaboration between the two institutions in order to integrate refugees of Ukrainian origin in Spain and to facilitate language learning through the Instituto Cervantes’ online training. Under this agreement, the Cervantes will offer 6,500 free licenses to access its online courses.

This agreement is the first to be signed by the Instituto Cervantes and the Spanish Red Cross to promote Spanish language teaching and support programs for Ukrainian refugees as a further element of their integration. The agreement is based on the standard model of agreement between the Cervantes Institute and the autonomous communities, provincial councils, city councils, NGOs, universities and, in general, Spanish public or private institutions.

“The action is part of the unique agreement adopted by the Board of Directors on March 31, 2022 of the Instituto Cervantes that reaffirmed the idea that working for culture and education is to commit to peace, democratic values, understanding between peoples and that, before any event marked by violence, the response must be in solidarity,” added the institution of Spanish cultural diplomacy.
