The Embassy of Haiti celebrated last Wednesday at its headquarters the 219th anniversary of the Flag of the Haitian Republic, with Ambassador Louis Marie Montfort Saintil leading the delegation.
“It is a real pleasure for me to welcome you to this event, said the ambassador, in which we celebrate the 219th anniversary of the creation of our Flag, emblem of the Haitian Nation and national pride since 1803, which also coincides this year with the 70th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Haiti and Spain.”
The Haitian ambassador went on to point out that “on 9 May, Europe Day, the European delegation in Haiti, especially Spain, reiterated its firm determination to accompany the Caribbean country in the current crisis situation and its commitment to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country in the medium and long term. The support of the international community, especially Spain, to the Haitian people is of the utmost importance, whose cooperation has been playing an important role in the country for a decade in various sectors, which are key to the Sustainable Development Goals that Haiti is committed to achieving by 2030″.
Louis Marie Montfort Saintil concluded his speech by pointing out that “the road is long, but remembering the history of our country, the achievement of the expected well-being lies only in Haitians taking control of their own destiny and betting on a society that reflects their age as a Caribbean country”.
The event was attended by the ambassadors of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Venezuela, Dominican Republic and Armenia, as well as representatives of the Cuban, Guatemalan and Paraguayan Embassies.
