Yesterday, the race ‘Madrid Futuro x Ucrania’, in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, which will take place on Saturday 28 May at 11 am, was presented at the Ukrainian Embassy.
The Minister Counsellor and Chargé d’Affaires of the Ukrainian Embassy, Dmytro Matiuschenko, welcomed the participants and said that “seeing all of you here is a sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people”. He also stressed that “the Spanish people have shown their solidarity with our people in an excellent way”.
After thanking the municipal authorities present and the sponsors of the sporting event in support of Ukraine, Mr Matiuschenko called “to run together in the race on 28 May, where you don’t need to be an athlete, you need to have a big heart and the will to support the Ukrainian people”.
The Minister-Counsellor concluded by stating that “during the race, the Ukrainian Embassy is going to use the slogan ‘Ukraine, EU candidate country’. It is really important for my country that the Spanish government will support the decision of the European Union to grant Ukraine the status of candidate country during the European Council on 23-24 June. Because the Ukrainian people deserve it. We defend the values that we share with the whole of Europe, democratic values and the freedom to decide our future, and the future of Ukraine is in the EU”.
The total amount contributed by runners (€5 for children under 16 and €10 for those over 16) will be donated to UNICEF, Caritas and the Crus Roja. There are very few requirements to participate in this race, apart from a strong desire to support Ukraine in these difficult times. You must wear yellow or blue clothing, with the aim of drawing the Ukrainian flag along the route, from Plaza de Cuzco to Paseo de Recoletos, 5 Km for Peace.
The maximum time to complete the race is 1 hour and 30 minutes, plenty of time to do it as a runner, at a slower pace or walking. Registrations can be made on the race website. Registrations will not be accepted on the day of the race.
